Thomas works closely with the restaurant portfolio companies. He spends his time understanding the cost drivers of the business and how to best achieve operational efficiencies, resulting in EBITDA growth. He works with the Director of Operations in evaluating the performance of the franchise portfolio by using a proprietary dashboard that summarizes data for each unit. This is used to ensure all general managers are achieving maximum performance. In addition, he generates financials models to understand how to best allocate future cash flows and how those decisions effect the key drivers of business value (profit, growth, risk, and capital). He performs due diligence on potential investments, which includes meeting with management, analyzing key metrics, reviewing financials, and making investment recommendations to Mosaic based on valuation, leverage, and return. Thomas also serves as the construction and project manager for all remodels and new development opportunities.
Prior to working with Mosaic Investments, Thomas worked as an investment analyst for Gray Matters Capital (“GMC”), an impact investment firm targeting social enterprises in emerging markets. For GMC, he supported existing portfolio companies and managed a strong pipeline of opportunities in Sub-Saharan Africa and India. He also led a pilot in Kenya focused on converting shipping containers into classrooms and leasing them to a group of affordable private schools. Thomas also worked as an associate for the Asset Based Lending department at SunTrust Robinson Humphrey in Atlanta, Georgia. He majored in finance at the University of Georgia and received his MBA from Emory University’s Goizueta Business School.
